Electric Scooter Price In Nepal

As we all are familiar with and taught about at school; Nepal is the second richest country in water resources and has the potential for immense hydro energy. So, you can imagine the broad scope of possibilities we have for electrically powered sources of transportation.

Hydropower has played a significant role in the history of Nepal, both as a source of electricity and as a driver of economic development. The country has a long tradition of using water as a source of energy, with the first hydroelectric plant being built in 1911 A.D. In the decades that followed, Nepal continued to invest in hydropower, with numerous dams and hydroelectric plants being built throughout the country. Today, hydropower is a vital part of Nepal's energy mix and is helping to meet the growing demand for electricity in the country.

In recent years, the country has made significant progress in expanding its hydroelectric capacity and developing new hydropower plants. Here are some examples of current hydropower projects that are being built in Nepal:

So, as you can see why there is so much emphasis on electric scooters and cars or in general electric modes of transportation in Nepal. With so much possibility just waiting to be tapped into for overall economic and infrastructural growth, we can only imagine if it’s worth the switch from fuel-powered modes of transportation to electric.

Electric scooters have become a popular mode of transportation in many parts of the world, and Nepal is no exception. In Nepal, electric scooters are gaining popularity due to their convenience, low maintenance costs, and environmental benefits. The price of electric scooters in Nepal depends on various factors such as the brand, model, features, and battery range. On average, the price of an electric scooter in Nepal ranges from NPR 1,00,000 to NPR 3,00,000.

Some popular electric scooter brands available in Nepal include NIU, Ather, Hero, TVS, and Honda. These brands provide a variety of e-scooter models that cater to your need and requirement. Among the many from the list, we will be comparing their price and features; so as to help you make a better buying decision.

Comparison Between NIU N Sport, TVS iQube Electric, and TVS Ntorq 125 XP Fuel Scooters

Here we will be comparing equally good offerings from both NIU and TVS. All the 3  scooters have their own pros and cons respectively. No scooter outperforms one or the other in every aspect. As riders, buying a scooter needs various considerations and research for it. Similarly, this comparison is catered toward those individuals who are having a hard time figuring out whether to go electric or buy a fuel-powered scooter.

Let’s start off with the top speed of each scooter; NIU N sport has a top speed of 36km/h and a range of 80 km on a single charge while in dynamic mode and a top range of and a top speed of 18km/hon e-save mode while going up to 48km/h top speed and 70km range in sport mode. It has three modes to ride on i.e Dynamic, E-save, and Sport mode.

And TVS iQube has a top speed of 78km/h while in sport mode and 45km/h while in eco mode. Yes, iQube also comes with two modes for the riders i.e Eco and Sport respectively. TVS iQube provides a decent riding range of 55km in sport mode and 75km while in eco mode.

While Ntorq 125 XP has a top speed of 98 km/h and mileage of approximately 56 km per liter. It also has two riding modes i.e Street and Sport mode.

Given the figures, it might seem as if the NIU N sport and TVS iQube underperform given the numbers but not everyone buys a scooter just by looking at the top speed of the vehicle. If you’re a rider looking for speed then it's a good option to go for Ntorq 125 XP but if you’re not concerned about the speed of the vehicle then NIU N Sport and TVS iQube is a good options for daily commutes. While it may be that NIU N sport and TVS iQube may have a lower top speed than TVS Ntorq 125 XP what it lacks in speed covers up for running cost and maintenance costs.

One of the main benefits of owning NIU N sport and TVS iQube is that they have fewer moving parts compared to Ntorq 125XP scooters, which means there are fewer components that can wear out or require maintenance. Electric scooters also do not require regular oil changes, which can save money and time. The current price of petrol according to NOC(Nepal Oil Corporation) is Rs. 178 per liter so, if you do the maths, in the long run, choosing an electric vehicle such as NIU N sport can be beneficial as it consumes 2.1 unit of electricity on a single charge which costs about approximately Rs. 22-25 which runs upto 75km-95km. While TVS iQube consumes 3.04 units of electricity on a single charge which costs approximately Rs 35 and runs 45-78km.

Further breaking it down if you calculate the per km cost efficiency of the vehicles NIU N sport provides with 3.41 rate of cost efficiency while traveling at 75km/h and a 4.09 rate while at 90 km/h. And TVS iQube provides with 2.22 rate of cost efficiency while traveling at 78km/h and a 1.28 rate of cost efficiency traveling at 45km/h. Meanwhile, TVS Ntorq 124XP provides you with a 0.22 cost efficiency rate at 75km/h and 0.28 cost efficiency rate at 90 km/h. Though the price of the NIU N sport may seem a bit costlier than Ntorq 125XP in the long run NIU N Sport proves to be more cost-efficient. But TVS iQube provides a good performance-to-cost ratio so if you’re someone looking for a powerful performance from an e-scooter then TVS iQube could be your choice. On the other hand, fuel scooters require more frequent maintenance, such as regular oil changes and tune-ups, as well as more frequent replacements of consumable items like spark plugs and air filters. But saying that Ntorq 125XP provides the rider with more power to scale the uphills of Nepali roads with ease.

However, electric scooters also do require periodic battery maintenance, such as cleaning and balancing the battery pack, and the batteries themselves may need to be replaced after a certain number of charge cycles. But is very good for the environment as it has less emission of gasses to worry about. Riding an e-scooter might help you make a difference in the noise and air pollution that's been plaguing the world. Saying that doesn’t mean that everyone would opt for an electric scooter over a fuel one. As electric scooters are a very good choice for normal commutes but those who depend on their income source from ride-sharing such as Pathao and Indrive may not find it convenient.

As electric scooters come with batteries to power them on and they need to be charged, unlike their fuel counterpart. The NIU N Sport is powered by an 1800 Watt Bosch Motor. It comes with a 60V35Ah Lithium-Ion Battery. And it takes 6-7 hrs for it to fully charge and doesn’t have a fast charge feature.

While the brand-new TVS iQube is powered by a 3.04kw electric motor positioned on the hub. It has a maximum torque of 33 Nm and a peak power of 4,400W. This electric scooter has a 3.04 kWh Lithium-Ion battery with a BMS (Battery Management System) that aids in battery maintenance. It takes 5 hours to fully recharge and sadly it doesn’t support the fast charge feature.

No matter what sources a vehicle might use to run; eventually it has to be recharged or refueled for running again efficiently. At the moment both the NIU N Sport nor TVS iQube don’t have any charging stations established in the city yet but are planning to plant charging stations in the coming months. This is where the fuel-sourced vehicle has an advantage over the electric ones as fuel stations are easily available everywhere throughout the city.

Talking about the suspension capabilities of all of the scooters NIU N Sport has a Single Unit Shock Absorber to reduce the weight and give the scooter more agility to cruise through urban traffic.

While TVS iQube has a telescopic fork at the front and an adjustable hydraulic twin-tube shock absorber at the rear for smooth riding while cruising through the bumpy city streets.

And the TVS Ntorq has telescopic front forks and coil springs for its suspension setup which makes commuting on the Ntorq a breeze.

Overall, electric scooters and fuel scooters both cater to a specific demographic of riders. One doesn’t simply trump the other in every aspect. It is important to consider the maintenance costs and the nature of work-related purposes before making a purchase, as these costs can add up over time and affect the overall cost of ownership. It is also a good idea to follow the manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule for any scooter to ensure it stays in good working order and to help extend its lifespan.
