How Did It All Start?
In the 1980s, Yamaha introduced the RX100 to the Nepalese market, and it quickly became the talk of the town. Starting at around Rs. 83,000, everyone wanted to own or at least ride this machine. The distinctive sound, sleek look, and remarkable speed created a sensation. The RX100 was ubiquitous in Nepalese households, thanks to its affordability, ease of maintenance, and cost-effectiveness. The exhaust note became a dream sound for many, securing its place in the hearts of motorbike enthusiasts.
Modifications
The Yamaha RX100 remains a popular choice for motorcycle enthusiasts who appreciate its customization potential. Over the years the raiders have modified the bike as to their style and performance needs. Some popular modifications are exhaust system upgrade, performance tuning, suspense update, custom paint job to name a few.
Design and Features
The Yamaha RX100 came with telescopic Kayaba front suspension and a 5-step adjustable swing arm at the rear. Weighing 103 kg (kerb) and 95 kg (dry), it had a fuel tank capacity of 10.5 liters and an engine oil capacity of 1.3 liters. With a ground clearance of 145 mm, it handled the varied terrain of Nepal with ease.
Performance
The RX100 was powered by a 98cc, 2-stroke, reed valve, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine with 7-port torque induction. This engine produced 11 BHP at 7500 rpm and a max torque of 10.39 Nm at 6500 rpm, coupled with a 4-speed manual transmission and a wet multi-disc clutch.
